This is a subject that is very dear to me. And it is a world. A new and beautiful world, of discovery for the baby and for the parents / caregivers, but it can also be very challenging. It is a crucial moment in the life of this new being, as relationships with food will begin to be drawn: is it a pleasant moment? Calm? To explore? No time? You are given time and space to explore: the flavors, textures, colors, smells ...? Everything is new in this new body. Or is it all in a rush? Looking at the clock? Is there tension and pressure? Are there goals to fulfill (other than baby's goals to explore this new world, in a different time that doesn't fit the clock)? Are there punishments? Is there raise of your voice?
All of this will blur the relationship of this new being with food and nourishement, and also with his/her body, as food feeds our physical body.
It is crucial to do this complementary food introducing and also the posterior infant feeding in harmony, for the baby/ child and the parents. It is important that the parents understand what is happening, that the less positive reactions of the baby / child are not “personal attacks”, understand how can the parents/ caregivers help in this process of discovering food and feeding this new being, however challenging it may be, to be all in a more calm and nourishing environment for all.
This is a world, and a world that fascinates me. There are several techniques of food introduction, from the most traditional of feeding the baby with a spoon, to letting the baby explore the food with his own hands, to a mixture of techniques. Each baby is unique. And even for the same baby sometimes the same technique does not always work. Flexibility, patience, deep breaths, trusting the process are key ingredients for this period. So is information.
If you feel that I can help you with this, regarding your diet includes meat, fish and eggs or in a vegetarian diet, count with me.
